My narrative photo sequence was fairly simple, so setting up the pictures themselves went well. All of the pictures were set up with the same depth of field and tripod positioning, so there were no issues with motion or zoom. It was also relatively easy to set up the compositions, and I had fun selecting appropriate props for each picture in the sequence. I think the compositions themselves turned out well, and accurately convey the story I wanted to tell. I believe the lighting is the strongest aspect of my pictures, as the changes I made to white balance, exposure, and the physical lighting itself accomplished the tone I wanted in each composition!
Due to my planning mistakes, I ended up having to use a different camera than I intended for these photos. This meant learning a new interface and having to adjust to the limitations of this older camera. I am very grateful that I was still able to complete this assignment even with the mistakes I made, on top of having to delay my plans due to getting sick, but these interruptions did mean I had to change various aspects of my photographs. The camera I used was a bit older, so I had to tinker with the settings quite a lot. This meant straying from my original exposure plans. I also had to do more post-processing after the pictures were taken. While the pictures still look good, I feel they could have turned out better with a higher quality camera. I am very lucky I didn't have to change any other aspects of my pictures, and I am still happy with how they turned out!
Although I believe my lighting adjustments look good, they did create more visual grain than I anticipated. This became apparent during post-processing, as some photos required many adjustments to bring them up to a higher quality. I may have used too high of an ISO and did not adjust shutter speed or aperture enough. I should have referred to the exposure triangle more often during my set-up. Even with my edits, my photos still have more noise than I would have liked. Although this does add to the mood of certain shots, I still should have tried more creative lighting techniques or experimented with the exposure more. I will try to keep these aspects in mind for future photographs.
For my future photographs, I want to do more with lighting and exposure to create atmopshere. I believe that this photo sequence captures mood effectively, but I still could have done more to convey it in other ways and to enhance the compositions. I also need to do more planning, creating backup plans in the event that my intial plans fall through. I need to become more accustomed to the camera itself, and gain a better understanding of the exposure triangle. Developing my skills in photography will enable me to take higher-quality shots and create impactful compositions!
