My classes in Semester 1 included Web Development, Image Editing, UX Design, and Professional Practices. I gained skills in using HTML & CSS, Photoshop, Figma and learning how to work constructively with others. Here are my proudest projects from this semester!
In this Photoshop project, I used both stock images and Adobe Firefly to create a cover for a smoothie shop! This project encouraged me to experiment more with brainstorming and experimentation. This poster is an excellent example as how I've grown in just this past year. For example, I did very little iteration during this assignment, but I now try to create many more mockups and thumbnail sketches of my ideas before diving in. I believe I have come a long way since this design!
This project was the culmination of my skills in Figma thus far. It
involved creating individual components for a website and formatting them for both a mobile
and
desktop mock-up.
My main
reason for including this assignment is to show how far I have progressed in using Figma to
create designs, both technically and visually. This Cathedral Village website mock-up was
decent, but there was still much I had to learn about consistency, spacing, and modern web
design. I do still have much to learn, but I believe the contrast between this mock-up and
my Town of Rouleau redesign is quite telling of how I have honed my Figma skills. I am
excited to continue creating mock-ups, prototypes, and websites into the future!
In a similar vein to the Menu Cover project, this assignment saw me
creating a movie poster in Photoshop. I was constrained to using stock images and
Adobe Firefly, but I tried to make the most of these circumstances. As one of my first
projects, I was still quite a rookie at Photoshop, and there are many aspects of this
project I would change in hindsight. However, it did teach me many vital lessons, the most
important being the value of constructive feedback. We did class critiques for this
assignment, and it gave me many insights into what I could adjust for future projects. This
was a lesson I have carried over into my future work, asking for criticism along the way
instead of at the very end!
I am proud to say I have come a long way since these first semester projects, and I am
excited to design more next year!
